Some of the Projects We’ll Visit

Kufunda

KUFUNDA is a place of learning, where people can recover their sense of pride, diversity and capacity in working with their own knowledge to create a healthy and vibrant community.

Kufundu cares about people creating their own solutions. They care about working with the diversity and wealth that we have, to create what we need. They believe that change begins with conscious and confident people, coming together to explore what matters most to them. Then healthy action can flow.

RISE

Rise is an amazing project in Lesotho that is working towards a world where sustainable social enterprises, created by local entrepreneurs from low income countries, are the norm.

Enterprise

Rise believes in the importance of a world where sustainable social businesses, created by local entrepreneurs, are provided with resources, knowledge, and the professional community needed to be successful and transformational in their communities. They aim to develop training and solutions that can address local needs and contribute to economic development.

They provide:

  • Mentorship
  • Technical & Soft Skills
  • Business & Entrepreneurship
  • Training
  • Referrals to Customers
  • Market & Business Incubation Services
  • Work Experience

TOTYA

Totya is a platform that provides a safe space for survivors of Sexual Violence to share their experiences, challenges and discomforts without the fear of judgment or blame or any other form of stigmatisation.

They work tirelessly with the communities they serve to prevent sexual abuse against all. They furthermore empower survivors of sexual violence to speak freely and openly about their experience, to promote their growth in communities and their mental, social-cultural and economic status.

KILI CREW

The Kilimanjaro Animal Center for Rescue, Education, and Wildlife is an accredited rehabilitation centre specialising in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured, orphaned and abused wildlife.

They promote a greater understanding of wildlife by creating a generation of informed and compassionate youth who will lead Tanzania to a more sustainable future for wildlife, the environment and the community.

As part of their mission, they rescue animals, orphaned or hurt due to human-wildlife conflict, and rehabilitate them before releasing them into a protected environment.

Their latest project is to train up 1,000 rangers across Tanzania to rescue baby elephants

Other possiblities.

  • An elephant rescue where the women from the local tribe are trained as elephant carers – a job that has traditionally been reserved for men.
  • A dance project providing a supportive and healing environment for the community.
  • A sustainable textiles factory that employs only women.
  • A handcraft collective
